![]() ![]() It can't find a bunch of files from the internet and fails with HTTP 404 errors and the installer aborts. Where is that image on your site? I'm trying to reinstall my Nucore, and using a downloaded version of Ubuntu 8.04.4 fails as soon as I run the auto-installer from the Nucore CD. There are plans to update Nucore but everyone knows that's been delayed until we can resolve some issues. Of course now that I've said it one will break =) We have literally had no bad hardware (usb or audio amps) which I'm pretty proud of. We do still fully support the software and hardware. It's readily available from lots of sources. We have a copy of the 8.04LTS image on our site if you can't find it through normal channels. You obviously can't follow our instructions to do it but it can be done. It is also true that any version of linux currently can be modified to support Nucore. You are correct in saying it doesn't support usb 3 or newer features but we don't really need those to operate. Maybe 18 more months? USB+ is already on the horizon with a ton more throughput and a new connector.Ĩ.04LTS does actually work on motherboards you can purchase anywhere. You can still find mobo's with usb2 but not for much longer. Tl dr The Nucore fellas were great engineers but definitely not sysadmins, Pinbox fixed all those problems though. ![]() ![]() But the way they packaged it makes that a moot point as upgrades to Pinbox wouldn't be nearly as damaging as to Nucore. As for Pinbox it seems as though it won't because of some sort of legal issue. Obviously Nucore has 0 continuing support. Also there are less stability and security issues because it's a much newer version of all the distro's software and there is much much less of it installed. Pinbox is using a stripped down version of Ubuntu which means it's much lighter weight and boots significantly quicker. Not to mention it used old software, and the completely wrong distro. It configured Ubuntu "correctly" as the Nucore instructions configure things in a dangerous state if you were to ever add network connectivity. At some point, there will be some part of the current Linux distro (needed for newer hardware) that doesn't run with Nucore as coded. It's only good as long as they're willing to maintain it. If you do have yours set up and working, back it up!Īnd that's the issue we've always said would exist with Nucore (which the Nucore guys love to push aside). My recommendation is that if you haven't set your system up yet, do it as soon as possible. This is something that is a subject for someone smarter than I. I thankfully already had it downloaded, but there may be a workaround. If you don't have all the files downloaded that you need, you may have to dig around, the file is no longer available at the link posted. What you will need to do is follow the instructions on the following website to update your sources.list file to include a new repository that has the files for the obsolete Ubuntu versions. Unfortunately I don't know how long this workaround will work, so I would highly recommend if you haven't set up your Nucore up yet, do it now. ![]() This leaves you with a bit of a dilemma if you need to re-do your Nucore setup, or like me, you have had your Nucore sitting on a shelf waiting until you get around to setting it up. Set the computer up on the bench and installed Ubuntu 8.04LTS and finally managed to get my network adapter to work in Ubuntu and then discovered that 8.04LTS has reached End Of Life as of May 9,2013 and now the standard repositories no longer exist. I liked the idea of the configuration for ignoring LED's in the self test, using modern non-proprietary hardware and the jukebox function.įast forward to last week, I finally decided to put all the pieces together and set my system up and test everything. I was going to post this to Nucore bulletin board, but I can't get access to it, so I will post it here.Ī little background, I purchased my RFM from one a container deal and it works 100% with the factory computer, but when it was announced that Nucore was being discontinued I decided I should probably grab it up. Well I thought I would post this after my experience setting up the Nucore setup for my RFM. ![]()
